Orbital ATK is currently seeking a Temporary Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Chandler, AZ.

Role description & Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of a lead engineer, the candidate will evaluate the structural integrity of launch vehicle components.  Candidate will also have opportunities to design and analyze basic test concepts to be used for structural testing launch vehicle structures and support hardware.  Candidate will generate sketches, write test procedures, document analysis results and conduct tests.  Candidate must be able to understand the scope of tasks, visualize basic design concepts, perform analysis utilizing appropriate classical and computer aided techniques, and prepare results for presentation orally and in writing.

This is a temporary position expected to last 9-12 months.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of mechanics of materials, structures, and load paths. 
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques for the determination of stress, deflection and buckling. 
  • Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis methods and software required. 
  • Some familiarity with analytical techniques such as nonlinear methodologies, fatigue, fracture mechanics, buckling, and modal analysis are a plus. 
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW test software a plus. 
  • Ability to apply fundamental analytical techniques and prepare written analyses. 
  • Working knowledge of MS office is required. 
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Education/Certifications

Position requires a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with a minimum of two years related work experience or a MS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with some related work experience preferred. 

This position can be filled at a lower level requiring a BS in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering with some related work experience preferred.
