Orbital ATK is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our GEM 63.63XL team in our Bacchus, UT offices.

Role description & Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for {coordinating all production issues between the development team and the production team. The GEM 63/63XL program is in the final stages of development and this individual is need to insure smooth a transition. This position will be responsible for vendor issues and all production changes. These changes need configuration management control and proper classification per customer contract requirements. This position will lead the CCB for this program and insure all changes are approved properly. This position will create methods to track all changes and vendor issues between production and development.

Job Duties: 

  • Chair program CCB
  • Responsible for CM compliance
  • Coordination with development project engineers
  • Coordinate vendor issues with IPT’s
  • Maintain and track all applicable changes
  • Maintain and track budgets associated with production issues
  • Prepare and present relevant changes and issues to the customer and internal management

Experience Requirements:  

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 4 years of design or production engineering experience.
  • Candidate must be able to prepare and present detailed issues to customer and management
  • Ability to travel (if applicable):  Travel expectation of 5% – 10%
  • Candidate must have some knowledge of the change release system
  • Strong skills in communication with customers and management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.

Experience Preferred

  • Knowledgeable of CM and Epic drawing release process.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of internal rocket motor processing
  • Strong knowledge of production changes


  • BS degree in Engineering or related field required.
    BS degree and 4 years experience, MS degree and 2 years experience, or PhD
