We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer (Project Engineer) to provide leadership to our Air Force Programs Minuteman III Sustainment team in our Hill Air Force Base, UT offices.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

The ICBM Propulsion Subsystem Support Contract (PSSC) Project Engineer is responsible for providing sustainment engineering of the Minuteman III weapon system at the Hill Air Force Base facility. Overall responsibility includes providing technical support of the Air Force ICBM missile system for the solid rocket motor and ordnance subsystems by defining, organizing, and managing assigned PSSC projects from conception through execution. 

Major roles and responsibilities include: Plan, coordinate, and implement the stand up and operation of flight component repair/refurbishment production lines. Coordinate AS testing and analyses and perform modeling of subsystems as required.  Function as part of an Air Force customer directed Integrated Product Team (IPT), working directly with the customer and subcontracted suppliers to support ongoing Minutemen III system maintenance and flight test operations to ensure missile force readiness.  Develop stage and component AS test requirements, planning and procedures, provide oversite of testing and perform analyses of test data to provide Service Life Estimates.  Use specific knowledge to successfully research, plan, communicate and achieve objectives through program and/or project team. Analyze, evaluate, and plan methods of approach and organized means to integrate new products, technologies, or materials into the system. Investigate flight and static test anomalies, determine root cause, and provide recommended countermeasures to the customer. Direct projects and coordinate activities taking place at the Bacchus and Promontory campuses. Manage technical activities and project schedules to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints. The assignment will be under the direction of the PSSC Chief Engineer.

Job Duties:    

System Engineer roles for technical support of Solid Propulsion and Ordnance Aging and Surveillance (AS) activities for the Minuteman III system

Test planning role for Aging and Surveillance tests for Service Life Estimates

Perform modeling of motor and ordnance systems as required

Represent the PSSC program to the Air Force customer at the Hill Air Force Base office

Participate in and provide technical guidance within the customer directed Integrated Product Team (IPT)

Experience Requirements:  

Candidate must have at least 7 years of engineering experience with a demonstrated history of increasing responsibility and team leadership.  An advanced engineering degree and/or post graduate research will count toward engineering experience.

Ability to direct others: Coordinate Engineering efforts across multiple groups as well as teams of multiple disciplines.

Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of a few trips per year (2% to 5%)

Worksite: Ability to work at multiple sites within Utah.  Primary worksite is at Hill AFB in Layton but a significant amount of time will be spent on-site at Bacchus and Promontory

Experience Preferred: 

Project Engineering experience is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to present in customer reviews, System Integration Team, as well as working group meetings.

Skills & Qualifications:

U.S. Citizen and must qualify for and maintain DoD Clearance, minimum Secret

Self-Directed, reliable, detailed oriented but able to understand the big picture, flexible, and a demonstrated aptitude for rapid learning

Excellent communicator demonstrated ability to listen as well as communicate up, down, and across the organizational structure within and across programs, functions, and organizations from operators to executive VP level management in the audience’s own language.  Demonstrated public speaking and effective technical communication ability

Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining focused results within reliability, quality, schedule, and budget requirements / constraints

Ability to create and present Technical justification of problem resolution for issues associated with Aging and Surveillance

Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems (use of Decision Focus, Fault-tree, Kepner Tregoe, Fishbone diagrams are examples)

Education/Certifications

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (aerospace, chemical, electrical, mechanical, material sciences engineering, or physics) required with 7 years  experience, MS with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 2 years of experience.

Advanced engineering degrees and engineering certifications preferred
