The Orbital ATK Missile Defense and Controls (MD&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton MD&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers.  The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.

Job Summary

Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors. Develops and maintains detailed work instructions for assigned products/processes. Dispositions discrepant hardware. Provides suggestions to improve productivity. Provides day-to-day support to manufacturing personnel.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates activities with program and operations teams to support rocket motor manufacturing on a daily basis.
  2. Assists with the creation and upkeep of process documentation and development of manufacturing procedures.
  3. Supports the collection and assessment of data on key process parameters using statistical process control.
  4. Assess processes, tools and equipment to support manufacturing activities and improve safety, quality, cost and efficiency.
  5. Assist in the process of root cause identification and corrective action implementation for production related non-conformance and safety issues.
  6. Provide support to production personnel on the manufacturing floor as required.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a degree in aerospace, chemical, computer, electrical, industrial, materials, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Degree completed by Summer 2018.
  • General understanding of fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories.
  • Interest in working in the space and/or defense industry.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Permanent and legal right to work in the U.S. without student visa or sponsorship.
