Orbital ATK is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Manager, for our Dayton, Ohio location.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Military Systems Center of Excellence (COE) Manufacturing Engineering Team in developing, defining and improving processes and products as measured by customer satisfaction, safe execution, process improvements, quality consistency, and design compliance.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Engineering at the Dayton facility and will interact with a variety of engineering disciplines as well as manufacturing operations personnel.  In addition to providing leadership to a team of manufacturing engineers, the ME manager will help define the strategic direction of the business, provide technical resources for proposal activities, provide input for budgeting and manage workforce within direct and indirect budgets. The ME Manager is expected to drive for overall business success and technical excellence.


  • Lead team of Manufacturing Engineers to develop, define and improve manufacturing processes for composite structures, antennas & apertures, and radomes
  • Provides personnel to support technical facility ownership as required
  • Foster environment of cooperation and teamwork with other engineering and non-engineering disciplines and departments (operations, program office, electrical engineering, design and analysis engineering, quality engineering, tooling engineering, etc.)
  • Champion COE Engineering objectives to achieve business success
  • Partner with customers to achieve goals and deliver to technical requirements
  • Participate in the development of overall COE strategies, objectives, and long-term goals of the organization
  • Advocate a safe and professional work environment
  • Manage execution of the program requirements to cost and schedule objectives
  • Provide challenging and stretching tasks and assignments to key talent in the organization
  • Steadfastly push self and others to achieve company goals
  • Champion the Company’s Business and Ethics Code of Conduct
  • Develop succession plans and be proactive in coaching and mentoring key talent to assume increased responsibilities
  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance highly preferred with background investigation within five years
  • Ability to recruit, manage and develop a team of engineers
  • Excellent problem solving skills are a must as well as demonstrated experience in leadership of cross functional teams in resolving complex technical issues
  • Sound financial understanding, including capital management and make/buy decision processes
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and applications
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of assembly processes, systems installation and acceptance testing
  • Knowledge of configuration management best practices
  • Excellent communication and technical presentation skills
  • Detailed understanding of process control through SPC process monitoring techniques
  • In depth knowledge of root cause and corrective action (RCCA) techniques (KT, 5 Why, Fish bone, fault tree)
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA and other advanced quality improvement tools
  • Ability to effectively maneuver through political situations and anticipate roadblocks
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant aerospace manufacturing experience; with a bachelor’s degree in a technical field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience leading technical/professional resources
  • Knowledge of composite terminology, lay-up and cure processes, testing, machining methods and precision bonding and assembly processes
