Summary: 

Responsible for the development of mission architectures and technical guidance of design and implementation of space and ground systems implementing mission architectures. Will assist with business area management and business development in the design and implementation of overall mission plans with emphasis on utility for the end user.  As such, will play a significant role in integrating business development, proposal generation, IR&D, and contract R&D activities, including integrating legacy products and capabilities with those under development.

Responsible for working across multiple engineering and new business disciplines to bring together subject matter expertise (both internal as well as advising on external resources) needed to develop complete mission solutions.  Will assume responsibility for technical and programmatic leadership of study programs and will regularly interface with customer on technical and programmatic issues. Will contribute to the business area strategy development and implementation as well as supporting ongoing proposals personally or through staff. Will contribute to mission concept development.

Description: 

Orbital ATK is looking for senior level technical expertise with a focus on development of space and ground segment based mission solutions (Mission Architect) for National Security programs.  This person would be considered a subject matter expert in one or more of the following mission areas:

  • Signals Intelligence
  • EO/IR Remote Sensing
  • EO/IR Sensor Development
  • Weather Remote Sensing
  • Ground Systems Design and Processing

The candidate must be a regarded by customers and industry as a Mission Area expert, and is responsible for leading a technical team. This will include leading activities such as: architecture and CONOP development, Analysis of Alternatives, mission modeling/simulation, systems analysis/trades, mission integration, mission studies, baseline/interface management, payload phenomenology, mission data algorithms/processing, interfaces to externals, major subcontractor technical oversight, preparing/presenting technical material at major reviews, and interfacing with Customer and SE/TA’s on all mission and system issues. These responsibilities include both individual-contributor and leadership roles, within a multi-disciplined engineering team. Successful candidate will be called upon to support other NSS program activities and may also be called upon to support other SSG program activities, including architecture studies, new business development support, mission support, peer reviews, proposal development and review, and traditional Systems Engineering functions.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and a sound understanding of the way the mission supports the end user. This candidate shall have knowledge and understanding of how the mission interacts with other space, air, ground, and sea based platforms. This person will have knowledge of the industrial base in the specific mission area and be able to identify, coordinate and interact with potential industry partners, teammates, suppliers, customers and SE/TA support.

*Top Secret Clearance is required

The successful candidate shall have a Bachelor’s Degree with a Master’s degree preferred in a technical discipline (e.g., Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science) and a minimum of 15 years of experience.
