Position Summary / Overview:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing all general accounting responsibilities while fostering technology and delivering programs/ideas that will improve processes and efficiencies.

This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles to thoroughly understand and resolve accounting issues and ensure data is stated in accordance with GAAP, remains compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley and established policies and procedures.

To be successful, the Accounting Manager must have thorough understanding of multiple accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Travel & Expense, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Labor, and Program profit and loss.  This position supports key business partners by ensuring relevant and reliable information is available on a timely basis.  The Accounting Manager must be able to work in a collaborative fashion and bring transparency into the results, accounting, and underlying processes and controls, and continuously exceed business and stakeholder’s expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

The General Accounting Manager is responsible for managing all people, processes, and systems to support the general accounting function in the organization.  The primary objective is to manage consistent and standard processes to information and financial transaction execution, application, and reporting.

  • Operational management of general accounting transactional processes and general ledger accounting period close
  • Maintain chart of accounts, org setup and linking
  • Prepare, approve, audit and post journal entries
  • Process revenue adjustments
  • Fixed Asset accounting
  • Fiscal period close (monthly, quarterly, year-end)
  • Account reconciliations –  ensure transactions and sub-ledgers are reconciled to the general ledger and in accordance with corporate policy
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual tax schedules
  • Imparts a controls culture and discipline to accounting ensuring important judgments, risks and errors are identified and properly addressed and accounted
  • Manages and monitors to Corporate accounting policies
  • Ensures all organizational operating instructions are maintained and appropriately followed
  • Ensures integrity of the financial systems and all financial information
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the Corporate accounting team, ensuring the support of the US GAAP financial statement process and other transactional needs
  • Form strong working relationships with the business finance leaders; understand their challenges locally and support the vision which enables the business to focus on higher business partnering tasks
  • Liaison with external auditors to ensure the annual audit and quarterly reviews are completed in a proficient manner
  • Continuously work with internal audit and SOX compliance teams to ensure effective controls, compliance and governance process and monitor progress, risks/issues, and barriers and create applicable mitigation strategies
  • Take an active role in evolving the organization’s processes, methodologies and capabilities;  drive continuous standardization of process, with the objective of improving accounting quality
  • Manage and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLA) that define the responsibilities and level of the Financial Shared Services offered and rendered
    • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) for general accounting to seek and drive continuous improvement, and ensuring execution of minimum service levels
    • Lead and develop the operational accounting team at all levels of the organization

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance
  • Demonstrated Record to Report process experience,  including  managing general ledgers,  account reconciliations, fixed assets cycle and associated accounting and reporting activities
  • Minimum of 5 years of people management and leadership experience

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in coordinating and controlling general accounting activity across several locations and employee levels
  • Enterprise resource planning (ERP) experience and other enterprise tools, preferably Deltek Costpoint
  • U.S. public company experience within a multi-billion revenue company, including process owner responsibilities for policy and procedures and internal SOX controls over financial reporting
  • High level technical understanding and several years of professional work experience in government contracting organization

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • MBA, CPA or advanced preferred
