Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Group is currently seeking a Sr. Engineering Technician to support our Engineering team in our Clearfield, Utah location.

Job Description:

Night Shift Position.  Provide engineering floor support in production of hand layup, secondary bonding, autoclave cure, NDI, machining, and assembly processes.  Work closely with the necessary manufacturing engineers to implement process improvements and address production issues.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • Position is on the ACS Clearfield Manufacturing Engineering team
  • Provide manufacturing floor support to address issues that may arise during the production of composite parts
  • Author and revise procedures and GOP's as requested (EWI and paper)
  • Work closely with the cognizant ME to implement process improvements
  • Participate in Process Owner Reviews (PORs) for upcoming part builds
  • Participate in and support failure investigations
  • Assist in identifying and implementing Corrective Actions
  • Support MRB repair processes as necessary

Experience Requirements:  

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 4-6  years of composites, aerospace, manufacturing experience


  • High School or GED required (education will be verified)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have an Active Secret DoD Clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation
  • Experience in composite process technologies such as:
    • TC weld and verification / vacuum port assembly / vacuum port leak check
    • Solid lamination / bagging / oven and autoclave cure
    • Sandwich panel construct / bag / cure (perimeter dams or tapered core)
    • Film Adhesive and Paste Bonding
    • Core and laminate CNC trimming
    • Assembly drilling and hardware installation
  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Able to read and interpret engineering models / drawings
  • Must be able to communicate concepts, ideas and procedural steps to others in a clear, concise and effective manner
  • Able to follow procedures and document and report results using MS Office
  • Strong ability to use hand tools (screw driver, Allen wrenches, arbor presses, etc.) is required
  • Experience with SMI measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers is required
  • Ability to work on delicate, high precision hardware is required
  • Must have hands-on / mechanical aptitude / trade (e.g. Farming, Construction, Auto Repair, Machining, Woodworking, etc.)
  • Able to make informed decisions using available data
  • Able to deal effectively with stress and conflict
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and demonstrated consistent attendance
  • Innate problem solving skills
  • Willing to work unconventional shifts occasionally to complete assignments
  • Night Shift Schedule: 9-80 schedule, Mon-Fri, 7:30 PM – 5:30 AM

Experience Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technology/engineering field preferred and 2  years of composite fiber placement experience preferred
  • Knowledge of automated fiber placement equipment, technology and processing is preferred
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot complex CNC controlled equipment preferred
  • Composite material manufacturing technology of hand lay-up and cure, machining of composite components, inspection (non-destructive and laser inspection techniques) and composite assembly (including bonded and fastened assembly methods) experience preferred
